ATO hit list 2025 – Key Areas Under Review

The ATO has released its compliance focus for 2025, and it's sharpening its tools in the following areas:

.

🔹 Work-Related Deductions – Claims for working from home, mobile phone/internet, motor vehicle use, and items under $300 are under close watch. Make sure you have proper records to support your claims.

🔹 Property Claims – Rental and holiday home deductions must be accurate and only claimed for eligible periods. Joint ownership must be split correctly.

🔹 Sharing Economy Income – Income from platforms like Uber, Airtasker, Airbnb, and Stayz must be declared. The ATO receives data directly from these platforms.

🔹 Cryptocurrency – The ATO is matching data from exchanges to ensure crypto profits (and losses) are reported correctly.

🔹 GST & Cash Economy – High-risk industries like construction, retail and hospitality are being audited for GST fraud and undeclared income.
